i see this and want to be blind... what a bitch.
Dear Toyota,
Build something that isnt overtly aimed at hippies/insecure men/soccer moms/families/lame psuedohip yuppies. I am none of those. It's a shame that I'd rather keep a rusty 25 year old toyota than any new cars/trucks in your whole lineup.

#7, That sounds good but unfortunately real* car enthusiasts aged 18-25 don't seem to affect Toyota's marketing strategy in any way. Hell, why would they bother introducing another flagship sports coupe when they're already making the majority of their profits in the family sedan/hybrid market? The thing is that, most people, at least from my experience, would rather turn to domestics for sports performance. And what do the import manufacturers care?
*Someone who knows what they're talking about and has their own opinion on cars instead of glomming onto whatever the media deems as "cool". |

#8, they had a premiere event at work the other day, and Scion still has mega loads of TRD accesories, now including 20" tis wheels, and color matched "racing pedals and shift knob", as well as a plethora of "under hood" goodies such as random caps and wires. >_< I do like that sorta tealish color though. |

#9, I read that Scion is making moves to capture the demographic that normally wouldn't buy a car, i.e. downtown loft dwelling college students. But they're had such success with factory "performance" parts I don't see them changing that strategy anytime soon, why would they? And then we have to suffer while scrawny suburban teenage morons with askew baseball caps whiz by our houses blaring shitty rap music in their cutting-edge econoboxes, BLEH.... |

#10, most of the rap blarers here drive daddy-bought GMC Yukons and RX Lexus' and the occasional big wheeled Caprice/Impala. |

#11, We get out share of those but I'm seeing more and more Scion products. Espescially the ones with the fake graffiti decals. |

#8, as long as toyota doesnt battle the vette like the MKIV tried. theres always a market for high performance imports. toyotas going to get a stale image here like they do in japan. you dont shy away from a challenging market. no ones just going to let you be the top manufacturer. Z06's will bring in alot more people to the dealerships than any v6 camry. [/soapbox] |

#13, Well sure there's always going to be a performance-import market, look at all the people clamoring to put high revving, high compression plants like H22s and K20s into Civics and take on F-bodies at the dragway. Hell I'd love to see a Mark V Supra. And look at the 300+ hp V8 coupe concept from Hyundai, that's pretty freakin cool. But the market is struggling right now, espescially thanks to the legions of ricers and this sudden green car frenzy all the manufacturers are getting into. I want my 2500 lb. 300 hp TT sports car back damnit!!! |

#17, I've seen some xA's and Xb's that didn't look too bad, but Scions as a whole seem to suffer from the same damn problem that's plauged imports for years; their owners think they're Vin freakin' Diesel and they've got the hottest ride on the block. |

I always thought the first gen looked cool in a quirky sort of way, and when my friend got one, I was really impressed with how spacious it was. Good gas mileage, affordable. Nice car. My only complaint about the first gen are the gauge cluster in the middle and the lack of power. Sure the power is fine for most people, but my engine has jaded me. |
