Why does it need standard and pop up headlights? I'm confused...

#1, Those "standard" headlights are pretty much for decoration... at the time this was made, the size of automotive headlights was strictly regulated in America (as stupid as that sounds) so it needed the pop-up jobs.

#2, I do remember hearing about the regs you guys have. Like when the MGB was released there. They needed the highlights to be higher... so they made the car higher killing any handling

#2, Ah, so that's the reason for those ugly early DSM triplets with the pop-ups.

#4, It's also the reason Nissan S13 coupes had to have the 180SX/240SX front-end in America... and why our AE86 Corollas had a Trueno front-end (though with a chubbier front bumper... again, thanks to American regs)

BTW-I'm pretty sure the other day I saw a 240sx (early 90s) with an S15 front end-wish I had gotten a pic
