Description:
A scene from The Hitcher the remake. I enjoyed it (contrary to most people it seems...) and it featured some nice car action sequences.

The crashes were rather realistic, a wagon that's violated from behind by a Dodge Ram actually starts folding in two, most crashes result from your run of the mill loss of control (no ramping off conveniently located prisms of earth). Of course, the fact that 90% of the cars roll over in the end is rather strange... still, car scenes are some of the most realistic in today's Hollywood.

I liked the first Hitcher with C. Thomas Howell and Rutger Hauer, some people are turned off by such a thinly premised movie but I loved it. No pointless stints of character development, no sub-plots, just an asshole trying to kill some hapless teenagers on the desert highway. The remake looked good, but I was wary of seeing it because I heard a few people saying that it was just plain lousy. But lots of my friends said it was really good so maybe I will sacrifice a couple bucks and rent it up.

#3, And I'll need to see the original.
Oh and BTW: all the movies I watched in the last year (or maybe two?) were in English. There are some lines I don't understand (like in the link I posted, the cop throws down the radio and says soemthing to the other cop: I don't know what) but so is the case in Polish movies, so I think those lines are simply spoken really fast or not clear enough.

#3, I watched some scenes of it on YouTube and thought it looked retarded. Very fake.

#5, Some things I heard about it (I'm assuming we're talking about the remake) made me cringe, I heard it had serious pacing problems, generic characters and lousy acting. But usually I'm willing to forgive some of a film's shortcomings if the actions scenes are well put together and I do like Sean Beans work most of the time. My buddy bought it and he can't say enough good things about it though, but his taste in movies is laughably bad (He thought Ghost Rider was brilliant, seriously). Maybe I'll just borrow it from him, I can justify wasting 2 hours of my life, hell I do it every night on RoN :p

I just looks like a lame rehash of the first movie to me. I guess it would be okay if one has never seen the first film, but I've seen the original several times and think it's one of the best thrillers in film history.

I enjoyed Highwaymen by the same director. The plot was even thinner, the villian was hokey, and some of the car stunts were a bit over the top (the Saab flipping over the top of the Cadillac after it gets rearended actually made me laugh the first time I saw it), but it was definitely exciting, and the direction, cinematography, and scoring were top notch.

#9, Well, I add time for the inevitable bathroom trips I have when I drink too much Mountain Dew during the film, plus the phone calls which seem to come just at best parts of the movie.

#11, It was flawed in some aspects, but I really don't expect a cinematic tour de force when it comes to a car-based thriller. I think Colm Feore plays a great creep, and Jim Caviezel (sp?) works as a dark and brooding leading man.

#10, That "dunnow" actually made the movie better. No "my parents were bad to me, wah wah" shit. Why is a psycho psycho? Who knows*? And sure as hell he doesn't know it himself.

#12, "Jesus" was pretty good in it. He did quite well despite being given some pretty awful dialogue.

"His headlights are like his eyes. Only one works."

Just bad.

#4, I just saw that video just now on YouTube. The line he says to the other cop is "You've got to be five-finger fucking me."

BTW, that exact same chase scene from the original film, for comparison: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BlSW9uV-FiY&feature=related

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the entire original Hitcher is currently on YouTube.
