Description:
Y'know... as much as I like to ridicule the Shelby Mustangs for being porkers, this vehicle completely outdoes them in unnecessary weight.
The 2008 Saturn VUE. It is a COMPACT, 5-seater car-based SUV.
It weighs 4,325 lbs.
To put that into perspective, my mother's '99 Chevy Tracker, a compact, 5-seater TRUCK-based SUV weighs 2,860 lbs. |

The Vue, along with the rest of GM's Crossover lineup utilized the Theta platform which, although similar in some ways to Ford's CD3 platform, is essentially used to build mid-size SUVs. I don't believe there's ever been a passenger car built off of said platform. And the Vue has always been a mid-size SUV in fact the Vue was the first SUV to use the Theta platform, in fact the 08+ Vues have a slightly bigger wheelbase than their predecessors. And I also believe it's unfair to compare any vehicle on the Theta platform to a Chevy Tracker even though the Tracker was a capable little machine with a 4WD truck based frame it was still classified as a Mini-SUV (hell, just look at one) and therefore not very heavy. Also, a larger SUV on say a GMT900 platform would weigh well in excess of 6000 lbs while say something on the Delta platform would weigh about 3000 lbs. Even in terms of GVW I'd say this fits squarely in the mid-size category very well.

#3, Uh, I didn't take issue with the fact you said the Tracker was truck-based because everyone knows having a "truck-based" platform doesn't actually mean it's built on a production truck chassis. And if you were using "car-based" as a general term then there really wasn't much reason to add it at all because it doesn't make sense when you think about it. And don't tell me it's not damn close to the size of a Trailblazer because the wheelbase and overall length etc measurements are within inches of one another and the Trailblazer (at least close enough to not justify putting them into different categories imo), Vue and Explorer all seat 5. But you don't have to take my word for it, just go to a Saturn dealer and take a gander at their SUV stock.

I wish the auto industry would stop saying "built on X platform" when they mean "the exact same vehicle with a different front fascia." The malibu, 9-3, G6, and Aura are all built on the "same platform." The Equinox, Torrent, and new Vue...
Yeah, I know I'm a dreamer.

#7, Yeah, I didn't mean to come on so strong and I apologize.
The Vue is lost in a sea of branding, with the advent of CUV's, small and mid-sized SUVs and all the tiny stuff it can get confusing to figure out which SUV fits in what category. We see stuff like the Expedition and the new Suburban and stare in awe at the sheer size of them and marvel at the fact they don't tip over when they turn and then we see tiny stuff like the HHR and wonder how the hell a family of four can sit in one and still have legroom, and for the wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide expanse of crap in between we don't know what's what.
