The great irony is that my V6 car currently has a ~150 bhp advantage over that thing. I'll have to fix that. :p |

One of the cool things about the five liter V8 is that it takes practically nothing to get them into the 12 second 1/4 range. Just googling "12 second 5.0" will show plenty of guys who do it in nearly stock cars...common mods seem to consist of no more than a 3.73 gear swap, underdrive pulleys, long tubes with an H-pipe, upgraded mass air meter, and ported factory heads. Some even run the stock camshaft, although they universally upgrade to at least 1.7 rockers to compensate. |

#17, He was decrying the lack of power, sir. What I named is a remedy. I don't know how much power that combo is good for, but if it's good for 12 second 1/4s in an otherwise stock car, it's probably quite a bit.
Granted, most of the budget 5 liter builds I see are Fox-bodies, which are lighter. Nevertheless, it would be a good starting point. |

#16, Head work is crucial in any build. Too bad people now believe in the magic of chrome exhaust tubing and yellow spark plug wires. |

#16, Assuming that it makes it here safely (hey, it's a long trip), I will probably at least put a decent set of aftermarket aluminum heads on it, and replace the entire suspension. The goal is to hit similar power levels to the V6 car, but without forced induction, and with an engine that is exceedingly cheap to repair.
At the moment, I intend to keep both cars. |
