I've seen some interesting things done with kits. Like a Countach replica with a Vette engine and tube chassis I saw once. But sometimes it's best if people don't bother trying to make some poor donor car look like a Ferrari. |

Some kits are cool, like Cobras (Factory five especially).
My personal favorite is probably any VW-based Porsche 356 kit, since the car you end up with basically *is* a Porsche 356. |

#8, Nothing could be farther from the truth than assuming the 356 was a rebodied Beetle. |

#9, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_356
"Like its ancestor, the Volkswagen Beetle (which Ferdinand Porsche senior had designed), the 356 was a four-cylinder, air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive car. While the 356's body was an original design by Porsche employee Erwin Komenda, its mechanicals (including engine, suspension and chassis) were all derived from the Volkswagen. " |

#10, It's true, but stuff Beetle parts into a 356 chassis and check the results. 356 was just so much more than the sum of its (redesigned and reengineered) parts. There was a reason why 356 dominated touring car, GT and endurance races, rallies, marathons and hillclimbs while the Beetle didn't.
It's like Lotus 7 replicas, really. You can build one using stock Sierra parts, or you can try to recreate real stuff (twin cam alloy engine, short ratio gearbox, quick steering rack, deDion axle) and blow the doors off those Sierra Locosts... if they had doors that is. |

#11, I didn't say build it up with *stock* Beetle parts, now did I?
The Beelte has such an impressive aftermarket that there's no end to the crazy suspension set ups. Then if you drop in a 2.0 liter flat four from a Porsche 912....yep, you have a 356. |

I like some kit cars. I think Ultima GTRs are cool, I like VW-based kit cars, and some other ones. |

#14, Oh boo hoo. I still think it's like putting parts from a Fiat Tipo into an Alfa 155. Alfa 155 is a Tipo derivative, but would you get an Alfa? No. Just how many parts from a 356 are interchangeable wth Beetle? |

#15, Of course. All of the universe is just a backdrop for the victorious march of Renault. |
