In all the typical spots too, it's rare around here to see a F-series of this vintage without at least some fender/hood rot.

#1, wierd, I didn't see any rusted to hell ones here. I did see a couple with minor rear fender rot, but that's in Kansas too.

#2, Well, when you head North it starts to become a little more prevalent, lots of people in rural areas just buy their trucks and beat them to shit, then sell them so the next owner can beat them to shit twice-over. And thanks to Michigan's shit weather and heavy road salting it's only natural after a while to see 80's sheetmetal get cancer.

#3, point, I guess the same can be said about Minnesota, and to an extent Kansas. I guess it's all about how people treat thier cars, but also what mediums are used to melt snow, among other things. I know in some parts of Minnesota like Windom, where not as many people live, salt is rarely used, so finding a rust free vehicle down there is relatively easy.

#4, Rust is usually the worst on square bodied C/K pickups and S-series from the 80's. I've seen trucks eaten alive with the stuff, fenders, panels, even bed sides will be totally gone. There was this one guy who lived a couple blocks North of me who owned a early nineties S-10 that's so bad I can't believe it hasn't totally disintegrated. I wonder if he still has it, if I see it I'll try to grab a pic.

#6, Heh, not surprising in the least. You know, those 4 and 6 bangers they stuffed under the hoods of those S-Series were such good god damned engines (provided you maintained them regularly), it's a shame that the body's didn't stack up.

#7, hells yes. I can attest. We had a S10 Blazer with I think a 2.8 (I'm not sure since it's been gone for about a year I think) that got around 330k on it before it went kaput.

#8, My grandpa's 4-banger had well over 200K on her before he sold her, my 4.3L had about 150K before it bit the dust. Ask anybody who owns one and chances are they'll have damn near, if not over 200K on the odometer.

#9, I know how that goes. I love the Vortec engine (it was the Vortec correct?), and have seen several that seem to be doing fine after even 200k. My main concern with those trucks though, is how hard they may have been driven, considering the fact that minitruck ricers like them alot, and in MN, even the first gens are "pimp" among teenagers nowadays.

#10, Vortec is correct. But the S-10 had alot of engines through the years, the 2.8L V6, the diesel I4, the OHV I4, the Iron Duke and a few more TBI variations.

#12, Yeah, but it was a Brazillian-market only engine built by MWM, which was a corporation that solely manufactured diesel engines for outside-US markets. They were bought by Navistar in 05.

#14, I figured a couple of them made their way over here, although I have yet to see one, or should I say I have yet to remember seeing one.
