#1, DiRF, what are the specs of the motors these things run?

~353ci OHV iron-block carbureted V8s... the cars produce around 700-900hp, I think the trucks produce a little less.

[edit] They run on unleaded gas (recently switched over from leaded gas), and they usually redline around 9500 RPM...

#3, Ah, they bare no resemblance to any Toyota past or present - nice definition of "stock".

Thanks.

Why don't more street rodders run NASCAR spec motors in their cars? Prohibitive expense or is it a driveability/reliability issue?

The specs I gave you are for all the engines in Nascar's top three series, from all manufacturers... of course, they each individually tinker with the designs, staying within the rules, but still trying to eke out a little more power or a little more reliability or fuel efficiency...

I know the engines are pretty damn expensive.... and also, yeah, I don't imagine the engine would last more than 2000 miles at the most without needing a rebuild... and from the way they sound on pit road, they don't idle well at all, or handle speeds under 40 very well...

#4, Contrary to what popular culture makes you believe, true performance parts are mind numbingly expensive and wear very fast. For (a rally world) example, a proper Evo dog gearbox can cost as much as two stock cars and it needs to be taken apart after each event. And this is group N.
And the pile of used up parts a WRC car leaves after each event is scary.

#6, Now do you mean "stock car" as in, a normal everyday brand new Ford Focus, or a Nascar-style "stock car"... cause each of these cars can cost multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars...

#8, I meant a stock Evo.

#9, And continuing the theme: a top spec group N Evo 9 build up cost around 300k USD, this was before the advent of 'big brakes' (basically a WRC-style floating brake assembly), bigger wheels, etc. Every rally it ate up around 30k.
