I saw this at the Henry Ford about 7 years ago. I think it retailed for about $17,000 grand at the time of the depression. |

The car pictured is the "Cabriolet Weinburger," the third of the six Royales produced. It was originally purchased by a German obstetrician in 1932, and at the time was painted black with yellow accents. This car sold new for exactly $43,000, which in today's dollars would be $710,664.
The owner (along with the car) immigrated to the U.S. in 1937, and the car was rescued from a scrapyard in New York in 1946. During the 1947 restoration, the car received a few mechanical modifications, such as a four-carb intake, and was repainted Oyster White with green trim, the exact same paint it wears today. It's been a museum piece since 1957. |
