Car and Driver's 1968 review of the Kadett wagon is still a hoot. It sure pissed GM off.

#2, They basically murdered the car....they called it a "eunuch on four skinny tires," "a rolling cornucopia or mediocrity," and said it "fulfilled all the wants of the safety and environmental ligislators and none of th enthusaist" (paraphrasing on all counts). They also used a junkyard as the backdrop for their photo shoot.

Among their complaints were the "overhead cam" engine (that still used rocker arms) that made noises similar to a coffee grinder and revved as if a millstone were attached to the flywheel, the tires that wanted to squeal when turning at 5 mph, the steering wheel angle that was similar to a greyhound bus, overpowered hydraulics on the rear hatch that hit every one of them in the groin, and endless other complaints.

#3, I don't suppose it's possible to find the text of that article online, is it? Sounds almost as funny as their first road test article on the Saturn ION.

#4, It used to be online, but I can't seem to find it now. They reprinted it in an issue about three or four years ago; that's where I originally red it.

I remember a similar situation when Car & Track tested the Dodge Colt in the early '70s... it was shocking how bad that car was... not only was it small and performed like shit, it wasn't all that economical either...

I miss those old Car & Track test-drives.
