It's funny that Chrysler used fender-vents on its K-cars 20 years before it became trendy to put very similar fender vents on "high-class" or "wannabe high-class" vehicles...

#4, In the past, about the 50s-60s the portholes on your buick showed how expensive it was. The more the better..... At least thats what I've been told by my father/relatives that grew up around that time.

#5, Generally, yeah. Although it changed a little from year to year, the top-level Buicks generally had four and the lower-levels had three.

And the add-on portholes actually started in the 1950s....people would buy them through J.C. Whitney and stick them on Chevy Bel Airs, Ford Fairlanes, etc. I have no idea why they've resurfaced lately, though.

#7, Whilst it is making a comeback of sorts, I highly doubt Buick is the trendsetter it once was... I think the return of fender vents can be traced to the 2002 Range Rover.

#10, Forgot about that. I amend my statement... the Range Rover is at fault for the popularity of large, vertical vents, but the Z3 really got the whole trend going in the first place, for the modern era.
