#5, I dunno... it's pretty spry for such a large vehicle with its 255hp 4L engine... according to my dad, it floats as softly as a cloud at 80mph, while still getting 24mpg.

...and he got his for $24,000, because it had been on the dealer's lot for a while. Not bad for what is essentially the base-model Pacifica (so it has the big 2nd-row seat and no 3rd-row, rather than a narrow 2nd-row seat and unusable 3rd-row) with almost every conceivable option save a sunroof.

In other news, now that my dad has bought a place here in Florida to be a 5-month snowbird part of the year, he's decided to buy a convertible... he was thinking of maybe an old landyacht convertible from the '60s or '70s, but realized he's not up for maintaining a vehicle like that in Florida... he's decided he'll try to find a Solara convertible. He was thinking Sebring, because he was impressed with one he drove in '97, but the new ones are gawdawful according to him.

#6, the reason I wrote that Pacifica thing was because of what I read in MT from when they were new. 0-60 in 10 seconds and $39,000? Granted it isn't a performance monster, those figures show what "power" it is producing. I don't hate the Pacifica nor am I fan. And I am a fan of springing for base-ish cars, so props to your dad.

I wish your dad the best in his car search. :) Is he gonna get a new one, or a pre-owned?

#7, Well, it looks like the Solara convertible is no longer going to be in production by November (when he gets back to Florida) so he may have to go pre-owned, or hope a Toyota dealer around here has one that's fully loaded left in stock.

...and the Pacifica is only a base-model because the up-level trim automatically adds the 3rd-row seating, which comes with a smaller 2nd-row to give access to the rear... since the 3rd row would be utterly useless, it's kinda pointless... other than that, it's fully-loaded with leather, 6-disc premium stereo, trip computer, power everything, and the big engine.

Well, that was interesting... my dad has changed his mind on what he might do for a vehicle down here in FL... he's thinking of shipping his VW Cabrio down and buying a used '07 Pacifica (yes, that means he'll own two)... and in PA, he'll trade in his LHS under the cash-for-clunkers program and buy a VW Eos.
