#2, The GTX was a dressier, plusher, more expensive car, whereas the Roadrunner was meant to be a bare-bones, somewhat cartoonish (and not just the logo) youth-oriented vehicle. GTXs (at least early on) were more tasteful, less wild....hence, these somewhat "in your face" stripes don't really seem right.

It also seems somewhat odd to dress up the premium model as the stripper version.
