Description:
While messing around with some mods for Street Legal Racing Redline, I decided to try and break my own personal 212 mph speed record (set in a 500ci blown 1969 Chevrolet Nova).
I decided that this minty 1976 Mustang Cobra II, with its 302 V8, would make a good starting point. |

First of all, I needed horsepower. A lot of it. The original engine was treated to a complete rebuild with every high performance part in the catalogue, including nitrous oxide, forged internals, and a 7.0 psi Roots blower. Plus, a '71 'Cuda Shaker scoup, for coolness. Engine makes 959 horsepower and 908 ft lbs. of torque without nitrous.

The nitrous was fed via two 24 pound cannisters in the back. I dialed the nitrous all the way up to 962 lbs. per hour, as high as it would go. I also decided to leave the hatch open, for extra downforce.

The seats were removed, and a racing seat (yellow) was put in it's place. I added a big 1957 Chevrolet steering wheel, for street rod appeal.

I decided as little rolling resistance as possible would be best....just like on those Johnny Lightning die casts I had as a kid! I went with 3.5 inch wide, 15 inch tall wheels on all four corners, with Mickey Thompson frontrunner tires. I also added six exhaust tips, since getting rid of all that exhaust would be a top priority. As you can see, since this car is all about raw American power, a patriotic paint scheme was a must.

I decided that I needed a nose-high stance to limit understeer and maximize rear traction, so I went with 9.5 inch springs in the front and 6.5 in the rear. I also added a mesh grille, for aerodynamics. Now I'm ready to hit the track.

My next time attack will possibly be in a Toyota AE-85 or AE-86, if I can find a good one at the dealership. I might also consider a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Pro Stock with a twin-turbocharged 283. |

Tried it again, with something a little truer to my first successful formula....a 1969 Nova, this time with a blown 427, making over 1400 hp.
Disregarding the "common sense" engineering I utilized when building my original Nova, I decided to think outside the box on this one, much like my Mustang. Given it's similar paintscheme, I've dubbed it "Patriot II."

Instead of low rolling resistance, I went the opposite this time: 13x18 inch wheels all the way around. I also decided to improve aerodynamics by lowering the car as much as possible....6.5 inches all the way around. |

I decided to utilize aerodynamic "flow through" to create downforce. By installer a double-decker wing on the back, then removing the front and rear windshields. Air will move right through the passenger's compartment, hit the wing squarely, and voila! Instant downforce.

Once again, however, it worked all too well. Everything was looking promising (195 mph and climbing!) when suddenly the nose lifted due to the extreme rear downforce. When the car came down, the tire rub from the extremely large wheels combined with the low ride height tore off a great deal of the car's front sheetmetal, and sprung the hood (though oddly, the grille was 100% undamaged). There was also some subframe damage, basically rendering the car undrivable. But the quest for speed will never die!

#9, Yeah, I bought the game, but these are fanmade cars and some fanmade parts (most of the drivetrain I used in the Mustang II was default engine parts, but the blown 427 in the Nova was built from fanmade components). |

You don't need downforce for speed, the opposite actually. Of course, as long as the car doesn't want to leave the ground... |

#12, Of course you need downforce! And stickers.
.........
Hey, maybe that's my problem! None of my cars have had STICKERS! |

#7, I decided to try again for real, instead of the joke attempts highlighted here. I reused that same 1400 hp 427 in a 1957 Chevrolet, and managed by current highest speed: 267 mph. No pictures, though. |
