Hate to derail the thread, but I'm reminded of my AutoCAD course in high school... we had an ancient plotter that actually used a robotic arm to draw the schematics from our AutoCAD drawings... it was fascinating to watch.

I don't remember any of my AutoCAD training, but I do remember having fun in the class and doing some projects on my own that actually turned out pretty decent. (I designed a cut-out-and-fold 3D car, I called it my GOproject ["Goof-Off" Project]) The teacher actually liked it and allowed me to plot it at the end of the semester.

#2, can you really be derailing the thread when you are the first post? That plotter sounds pretty cool. We also have an old 'plotter' which cuts vinyl. It sounds like an atari 2600 when it runs.

#3, I believe the reasoning for the robotic arm, it was before the days of affordable high-resolution laser printing, and it was the only way to plot a circle on paper without it being all jaggy-looking.

#2, I think we had that at my drafting class, as well.
