#6, That's the only thing they could squeeze any adequate power from back in the early 90's, the people who worked on the Viper had just come off working on stuff like the K-Car. |

#6, its not like the mr2 didnt use a modified corolla engine (later a camry...then back to corolla). or my miata doesn't use a modified escort engine. or the corvette doesn't use a modified truck engine today.
please, that shit is weak. |

#7, And those same people did a bunch of old muscle cars? They werent completely unfamiliar with big v8s, they just chose something different so it wouldnt just be another muscle car. Instead of designing a whole new engine, they used what they had. Cost effective? Yes. Sophisicated? Not really. |

#8, Whats weak is comparing an MR2 to a Viper. I hate it when people have to resort to calling out what others drive as if it actually mattered. |

#10, what you drive (or have driven) does matter. otherwise youre just a bench racer. you cant be an expert on a car by just reading articles. if the world worked like that id be a quantum physicist and F1 champion.
and i also used my own car, so its not like i was calling just him out. |

#9, From the time the Hemi was discontinued to the time the Viper concept was engineered was about 15 years, add a few to when the RT/10 came out in 1992. 15+ years of OPEC putting an emissions stranglehold on car companies and cutting the nuts off of muscle cars by forcing domestic automakers to produce small, often-times crappy engines to meet their standards. The Viper was a whole new project altogether, and yes it wasn't the most advanced car on the road at the time, not by far (rumor has it they used Dodge Dakota suspension bits to fill out the Vipers chassis the first year) but it reinvigorated the company...for a while at least.
#11, I became an expert on cars by reading prompts in Gran Turismo!

#15, No no, what gets me is the people that think what they drive actually matters in a discussion about something completely unrelated. Like wbmj calling my car out on various occasions.
Thing 1: "I do not like this car."
Thing 2: "Well, I do and your car sucks!"
Thing 1: "Youre right, my car has invalidated my opinion :("
However, calling anybody in this thread a bench racer might be considered mildly fucking retarded, since theres been no mention of racing of any sort.
But then the name bench racer is all encompassing, like so many things these days.

#13, or at least driven. at least first hand knowledge of. or anything besides articles. which is all 37 ever went on in the case of the viper. sophistication is nice, but so is a v10 monster. hating on a car because someone else in another country didnt like it, is dumb. you have to see at a car to tell if you like how it looks. and you have to drive a car to tell if you like how it drives. thats all there is to it. |

#17, So just how many cars do you have opinions of?
Ridding it of the thin veil the question wears, how many cars have you driven?
Now how many cars have you talked about?
Are the two numbers the same?
No?
Shame, shame. |

#16, i used an mr2 as an example. to be honest it was just a great example considering it never had anything but a base model motor, aside from the FI models, which were available in lesser cars anyways.
how do you not get that your car matters? experience matters. i drive a miata. i know how it drives fairly well. i can compare it to other cars ive driven. ive experienced it first hand. i know the miata has a better on center feel in the steering than the supra.
who is a better source? a textbook describing a war or a veteran of that war? |
