Description:
Note to self: lifting the front of a car with two scissor jacks is not advisable.
My dad and I attempted to raise up the front of my 6K so we could change the steering rack. Within about two minutes both brand-new GM Performance scissor jacks failed at the same time and dropped the car, which thankfully still had its wheels attached and just missed injuring my dad. |

glad you and your old man are okay, but i find this hilarious - again not because serious damage or injuries may have arisen, but at the mere fact that something as simple as even a jack can't be made well by GM.
i don't consider this "misuse" as i did the same thing briefly before i got my 2 ton floor jack, but for short <15 min stints.
somewhere there's a UAW employee who will say he could've made it better if he had gotten a bigger raise.
edit: just saw the made in china sticker. i stand by my UAW slam though.

#3, I dunno....I can't think of anything you can do with a scissor jack that you can do with a good lightweight hydraulic jack.

#4, In my short time working on various cars in various places with various jacks, Ive seen more scissor jacks fail than anything else.
But I think using jack stands is more important than using a particular kind of jack.

Scissor jacks are lighter, smaller, and cheaper to build, hence every car company makes them for thier cars, and they are absolute crap, I had to do a tire change on an 06' Suzuki Aiero, (not a very heavy car) and the factory scissor jack, which was never-used, collapsed within 3 minutes.

Glad you guys are ok, but... why scissor jacks? You just bought them?
I bent the shit out of the one that came with the Tahoe once... backed over it.
I HIGHLY recommend getting a substantial floor jack. They are well worth the 80 bucks and one would lift your whole car!
