#2, Could be a Chevy/Ford V8... or a Renault 1.7l. Older Renault engines were used en masse in all kinds of kit cars and formula racers because of their drivetrain layout. All you had to do was rotate it 180 degrees and you ended up with a MR drivetrain.

#3, In the US they would likely use a Volkswagen flat 4 instead of a Renault unit, since so many kit cars back in the day were Beetle-based and there weren't all that many Renault donor cars available :P

On second thought, I think you are correct about this car having a Renault engine. I Googled it and one site says it has Alpine power.

"The Italians had one more hand to play in the Alpine story. The firm of OSI in Italy rebodied an A 110 for the 1965 Turin show. In 1967, OSI took an Alpine engine and placed it in one of the twin fuselages of the bizarre 'Silver Fox', no doubt a reminder of Piero Taruffi’s (The Silver Fox) 'Twin Boom' record car."

#4, So it's most likely a 1.0/1.3l Alpine tuned Renault engine, 90-ish hp probably.

Judging by how they located the engine - I can only assume that this car was designed from the outside-in.

#6, I'd say it's more like being designed on copious amounts of designer drugs.
