1975:
GM: Introducing the Cadillac Seville! Our new smallest Cadillac!
Public: But it's not EUROPEAN enough!
1982:
GM: The Cadillac Cimarron! Designed with input from Opel!
Public: But it doesn't feel PREMIUM enough!
1987:
GM: The Cadillac Allante! Designed by Pininfarina! And they're all hand-built, with painstaking attention to detail!
Public: But they aren't HIGH PERFORMANCE enough!
1997:
GM: The Cadillac Catera! Designed by Opel! Suspension designed for the Autobahn!
Public: But they aren't POWERFUL enough, and they look too anonymous!
2004:
GM: The Cadillac CTS-V! Designed in America, tested on the Autobahn, unique styling!
Public: But it's still not PREMIUM enough, and the BMW M5 has more power!
2009:
GM: Okay, here's a new CTS-V! 556hp, supercharged, all new premium interior, and it positively dusts the M5 in every way!
Public: But it's from GM! OMG GM IS GOVERNMENT MOTORS FUCK U CROOKS! |

#3, Whatever it will be, it will likely be met by more excuses from the public. |

#3, I'm actually rather worried about the next 5-10 years in the car industry as a whole... the EPA is getting too much power when it comes to cars... pushing the idea of a 60mpg CAFE standard...
To make cars that meet that standard, and the crash standards, and are still appealing to consumers... that's an incredibly difficult, if not impossible, proposition. If the EPA would lighten up on the fucking diesel restrictions in America (most restrictive in the world, to protect us from the evil, evil carbon [not carbond-dioxide or carbon-monoxide, just plain old carbon, which has been knee-jerked legislated like crazy])... maybe that standard would be met, but nope... we've got only gas-hybrids in our future. Thousands of pounds heavier, pretty much twice as expensive if not more, and slow as shit. |

#5, Not to mention the added cost to the cars. Diesel trucks are now being proposed a 45 MPG standard, which would add about $15k to the price of an already $60k truck.
I think what they should do, is do the whole "grading" thing, but keep it inline with other cars in their class, like rate Regals against Fusions, Golf TDI vs. Insights, instead of rating a Fusion against a Prius, or a Corvette against a Yaris. |
