Is it just me - or would the SSR been something desireable if they just left it as a pickup and never bothered with the convertible?

#1, Agreed. Between cost, complexity, weight, reduced utility, and decrease structural rigidity, the convertible aspect fucked them up in multiple ways.

I wouldn't really mind having one as-is, though. Especially with an LS7 and six speed swapped in....

I rode in one on a handling course once. They're scary in corners, what with all the body roll.
