Man, new Minis are just like the new T-bird, PT Cruisers and New Beetles. Attempts to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle coolness of a long-gone car, or breed of cars, that will never come again. And their customers are exactly the same, too; people who want a "cool" car, but know nothing about cars and want to buy coolness and individuality. But you can't DESIGN coolness, it just has to HAPPEN. You can't BUY individuality, you have to CREATE it. I wish these damn yuppies would just go back to their ubiquitous Beemers and quit trying to blend in at cruises in their damn yuppiemobiles. I was at one down in Old Town tonight, and there were about five new Minis, and one old Mini. Guess which ones were getting COMPLETELY IGNORED, and guess which one had crowds all night.

Old school all the way. The new minis are good cars, they just cost too much. And they SHOULD NOT have the mini name on them.

Yeah, as cars they're perfectly good, from what I hear. They're just trying to be something they aren't, and have a soul they never will. Now, slap some different sheet metal and a different nameplate on it, and we'll talk.

If the Charger is made it really will recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle coolness of a long-gone car. And thats just cool.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, Geist. In the absence of any previous Chargers, the new Charger would be cool. Its coolness is not based solely on trying to be like an old car. It's cool in and of itself. Same with the Marauder. Also, those two don't try to blatantly rip off an old design. They're not all-out retro. They just have a few touches that bring to mind an old car. Another car that does this is the Bullitt Mustang. I guess what I'm saying is that if you have to make a car imitate an old car before anyone thinks it's cool, it isn't cool. The exception to all of this, of course, is the GT40; it's blatantly based on an old car, and it's damn cool. Because it, essentially, IS the old car, just a little bit bigger and with a more modern engine. But they didn't monkey around with the whole GT40 concept to appeal to yuppies.

Max: I think the real problem would be that most of those nostalgiamobiles have the body but not the soul. The PT Cruiser and Plymouth Prowler want to be hot rods but they have econobox engines; the New Beetle is just a rebodied Golf; etc., etc.

They're just like riceboys: Lots of show but nothing where it counts.

The C class Benz is the hatch right? IF so, yes, it's pretty ugly, glad I wasn't alone in thinking that
