Freaking AWESOME. I've been wanting an LT1 Roadmaster for a while now. Luckily, it's not hard to find them in good condition, although it seems like they're always $6000-$7000.

this one has been marked down to $3990 - though I noticed the rear tailight on this pic is a bit crunched... I'm going to look at it today after I confirmed it is still in stock.

I loved my '91 Caprice but it was really underpowered with the TBI 305...

My Volvo has an oil pressure issue that shows up with random engine ticking and low oil lights (even when the oil is filled). With the 145k miles I didn't feel like dumping any money into it since everything about the car is getting long in the tooth (suspension, tires, turbo, etc) so I've been looking around for a replacement. I hope this fits the bill.

well she's mine... the 850 is gone but not forgotten.

LT1 is a smooth power plant - tons of power everywhere and the 4L60E transmission is great. Basically its just a more powerful/refined Caprice with heated seats, outdoor temp gauge. However the stock stereo is cassette/AM-FM Radio only.

#4, heh - I really want one of those! The stocker Stereo doesn't sound bad - just no CD! The speakers are hilariously branded 'Concert Series II'. It seems like only GM has little plaques in their cars for the different upgrades. I have a 'Limited Edition' plague on the outside + 'Touring Package' plaque on the inside...

not that anyone gives a darn, but I checked the RPO codes yesterday - this car is actually nicely equipped.

'V92' Towing package (heavy duty rear springs, 140amp alternator, etc), 'FE2' firm ride (Police/9C1 Sway bars, heavier front springs), 'G80' Posi-traction, 'GW9' 2.92 rear gears versus the stock 2.56, and of course 'LT1' for uh, the LT1 engine.

quick update - five months with no problems. New tires and the posi traction makes this car quite workable in the snow. I only got stuck once and just for a few moments until I rocked it clear. The LT1 engine is a gem - this is the kind of car you don't need to pound all the time to get up to speed. My average mileage is pretty bad though but I'm a bit of a lead foot. It's too bad GM ditched the B-Body - they were just getting it right when they switched the production line over to SUVs. I can imagine a nice LS6/7 with a 6 speed... heh.

so anyways - yeah, I really like this car and look forward to driving it everyt ime I get in. The sleeper aspect has been fun too.

#10, The mileage may be bad, but I'm sure it's a helluva lot more fuel efficient than, say, a 6.0L Escalade... and this looks much, MUCH cooler...

#10, It's good to hear you found a car that you like. Basically, isn't it what it boils down to? It's not about the numbers or what some car rag says, it's about wheather *you*, the driver, likes the car. Even my piece of shit makes me grin every time it defies all that is known and starts up again. I mean, I hate it, but driving it, the act itself, separated from all the trouble with it... makes me happy.

#12, it does have a strong old car vibe to it... most of the 'racers' would absolutely hate this car on paper... but there's just _something_ about this car that makes me crazy for it. When you live in pot-hole city, the full frame really seems to soak 'em up better than an uni-body. I suppose the long wheelbase and big tires help too. The handling is like a 70s cop show and it also has a strong FU message to the uber-enviro-weenies and whatnot. It's my anti-modern world Buick!

I don't see another post on the matter. What happened to it?

EDIT: NVM, I see the Honda Element image now.

As sweet as this was, these cars do not do well in salt-ridden areas. :( Shame, really. At least kstag liked it and enjoyed it.

best dang all-around car I've ever owned - minus the gas mileage. We have really bad roads here in Michigan and a full-frame car with air shocks definitely helps over the bumps and potholes. The LT1 is a great engine and I surprised a few cars with it - like the Grand Am GT, some modified Miata, a few Mustang V6s, a Subaru who tried to pass me on the right to cut me off... *sigh* Of course I player "70s cop" with it too much and I'm surprised I never got a ticket with it.
