#40, this is true. But, an M30 would stand out enough. I've always liked em, and there those rare cars that non-car people sometimes ask what it is.
Reason I asked.

does that work?

#38, My mother wants to sell her 2007 Focus. After getting in three accidents with it (none her fault), she's convinced the car is cursed.

#41, Looks like it's been sitting for a while. Not a good sign.

The Crapi had been sitting a while. Was a piece of garbage.
The Mirage had been the "errand" car for the used car lot... worked out great.
The G20 had been the "errand" car for the used car lot... worked out great.

#43, This is true. After looking at the dealer's site, I retract it. Everything in the inventory looks like U-Pull-It Specials. :/

It's moving slowly but steadily towards it looking like I may definitely be getting a new (used) car in the next month or so... J30s have always piqued my interest, but the ones around are just too old with too high mileage...

...my attention has been garnered recently with the thought of a 1999-2001 Cadillac Catera... the '97s and '98s had horrible reliability concerns, but the '99-'01 models were considered to have improved dramatically... but thanks to those first two years, the resale values on ALL Cateras have nosedived, which means I could pick up a sub-100k mileage '99-'01 one well within my budget...

#46, Eek... nevermind on that... almost 2 tons and it only gets 17mpg? Yikes.

#48, Yes, I'm looking for a small luxury car, preferably with RWD... so a large, bloated, rebadged FWD Maxima would be perfect. :P

#46, Considered a Miata yet? They tend to be in your price range, and you can even find the odd one with an automatic.

#49, Get a Ford Focus with aftermarket leather, drop a Mustang V8 in it and convert it to RWD. Done.

#51, The RWD thing is mainly only if I can find a vehicle like that... Obviously I'll FWD if I have to... but seriously, the I35, and Maxima for that matter, is just too fakking hugj.

#50, ...interesting notion...

What about a mid-'90s Cadillac Eldorado coupe with the Northstar? They're FWD, but not too big, distinctive-looking, supposedly reliable, and in your range.

#53, Not too big? Compared to what, the Knock Nevis?

#53, My aunt has a red '90 Eldorado. She loves it. Definitely an improvement after the rusted-out '68 Malibu sedan she drove for years.

Looking through classifieds right now for the hell of it, I'm seeing a lot of late '90s Volvos for under $4000....V70s, V40s, S80s....

#56, Wow. Yeah. You're totally right... the Eldorado is totally dwarfed by the massive G20...

The Eldo weighs half a ton more, is two and a half feet longer, a foot wider... and, personally, I have an innate disdain of FWD Caddys... just the whole notion of a FWD Caddy rubs me the wrong way.

...I should really quit while I'm behind in this conversation. It's obvious my saying I want a "small" car, or even a "small-midsize" car means exactly squat here.

#58, Two and half feet longer and half a foot wider is not a significant external size increase, though point taken on the weight.

You shouldn't be hung up on the size of the car, anyway. Pay more attention to fuel economy.
