They might have used the Amtrak AutoTrain for a large portion of the trip...

#2, Granted, depending on where in Ontario they're from, heading to DC for the AutoTrain might be really out of their way... and it only cuts out half their trip... so maybe that wouldn't make much sense...

I see these kinds of things all the time in Orlando, plates from every state and just about all parts of Canada. Its kind of cool. DiRF is right there is a auto train that runs from just north of Orlando to D.C., my GF used it when she left the Air Force and moved down here from Dover, Del.

Even though I do see a number of Candian license plates ever so often here in FL, the most shocking ones I think are when I see Alaska plates... I mean, THAT'S an even *farther* trip.

Got ya beat, the other day, I saw one from HAWAII. And it was legit, not an old plate hung on the front because PA only requires one plate per car, so people sometimes put other ones on the front in what is essentialy free vanity space. Ontario plates are the only ones I know that use the odd four-letter three-number combination. Most other plates are either all numbers (Illinois, New Hampshire) , an even 3-3 split with numbers and letters (Just about everyone else) , or three letters and several numbers (PA, NY).....

I probably see as many plates from Florida as New York, if not more.

I've seen plates from many of the states, some from Canada and some from Mexico in California. A 10th anniversary edition Dodge Caravan in my town had Alaska plates for many years and my ex-neighbor kept current Michigan plates on his Jimmy for a decade. Someone at BART had Hawaii plates on their Jetta GLI for months. One of the more interesting ones I've seen was a visitor plate from Aruba, left on the front of a 1950s Mercedes 220S Ponton that was apparently taken there on vacation in 2004. When I went to Minnesota in 2008 to visit RRB, and we traveled to Michigan via Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, I counted plates from some 35 different states and/or Canadian provinces. The Bahrain export plate seen on a Frontier in Miami Beach last winter was cool, too.

#8, My father's keeping his Pacifica and Cabrio registered in Pennsylvania, rather than getting them Florida plates... err, that is, the Pacifica and Cabrio down here in Satellite Beach, not the Pacifica and Cabrio that he has in Pennsylvania.
