Description:
Dave's world famous, high mileage daily driver was totaled today. Wasn't the first time though. 20 years earlier it was totaled and I never really got that fixed properly. This photo shows the cable that used to be snug because it was holding the bumper on. Here's the story and the rest of the pics:

So is it "can't drive it anymore" totaled, or just "now it'll just drive weird" totaled?

...if it's the former, it's the end of an era :(

#2, From the site: "Good news is he's still drivable. If I can just find a way to get the gas cap off, I'll be set for another 100,000 miles!"

Here's hoping Archie keeps going for a good long time.

#5, I'm aware of that. I was responding to DiRF's comment.

Today, a body shop estimated $6300 in damage, called it a 100% loss, said "Another impact could make this a flaming inferno." He said it is time to junk the car. What a dick. I said "You don't understand, that simply is not an option for me".
99% of the car is exactly as is was for the last decade or two. If it costs $6300 to fix 1% of a car, does that mean this guy would charge $630,000 to restore the whole car? That's a little steep!
Sad side note, days earlier, I shipped an "extra" bumper with brackets to a guy who needed it for his car. Boy could I use that now!

If a truck going 30-40 mph more than you crashed into the back of your 38 year old car and only pushed the bumper in a few inches, that says something about how stout said car is. I'd love to see what the truck looked like afterward.

Maybe your body shop didn't understand that you only wanted an estimate for fixing THIS accident's damage. :P

#8, I told the other driver I'd give him $20 if he'd send me a photo of his truck to use on my website. Lol

#9, Yesterday, when you were driving down the road, you saw a truck just like the one that hit you, and it had similar front end damage to the one that hit you, and the guy driving it looked a lot like the one that hit you. So you got the license plate to compare it to the one on the police report. To your surprise, it was a different truck.
