Unlike on other vehicles, with tractors, the engine block itself is a load-bearing part of the structure, the engine front cover actually is the mounting point for most of the front suspension, rebuilding the engine requires you to essentially split the tractor in half. |

I've always noticed that tractors were halved any time major work was done, but I never knew why. |

#2, Tractors of this size/this era essentially break down into 3 parts, engine, transmission, PTO/Differential, that big flange behind the gearshift is where parts "2" and "3" of that come together.
Because the engine has to support the front end, the oil pan on this thing is not sheet metal, but a 1/2'' thick steel casting that by itself accounts for about 60lbs of weight and has a drain plug about the size of a silver dollar.. :) |
