Twin Dual Cam V6? Does that mean it's powered by two DOHC V6s?

To be honest, Richard retired 6-8 years too late. When he got his 200th win at Daytona with President Reagan in attendance, that was the pinnacle. That would have been the perfect season to start making plans for retirement. 1985 would have been a great retirement tour.

By the early '90s, Nascar actually had to *invent* the "Champion's Provisional" in qualifying specifically to make sure Richard wouldn't DNQ due to uncompetitive speeds.

What I want to know is, how the HELL did "Dick" become the nickname for "Richard"?

And you never hear anyone call him Dick Petty...... because that sounds like a name of a Private Investigator who's always on the brink of personal bankruptcy working out of a dimly-lit office in the corner of some rundown brownstone in a neighborhood where the wail of sirens is ever-present.

#3, A newspaper once referred to him as "Dick Petty" after one of his earliest victories... his mother immediately sent a letter to the editor stating, "If I wanted him to be called Dick, I would have named him Dick. His name is Richard."

#4, The wrote back and told her "if you didn't want to call him Dick, you shouldn't have named him Richard. Just look at all the success Little Richard has!"
