Description:
The Goodyear Blimp wasn't the only inflatable aircraft that company made, in the 50's, they also built the "inflatoplane", an inflatable airplane.
Pressurized at only 8psi (less than a car tire), powered by an 80 hp engine, and with a take-off weight of about 750 pounds, the plane could stay up for about 5 hours time. Once on the ground, it could be deflated and packed into the trunk of car. |

Innovative, but ultimately lacking a clear and viable use. Goodyear tried to sell them to the army as scout planes or as personal escape-craft for stranded soldiers or downed airmen. Surprisingly, the Army wasn't interested in a plane that could be shot down by a BB gun, and the project was abandoned. |

"Hey, put down that megaphone. I'm going to come down there with this plan made of superior and innovative aerospace technology and bust you up. You MAGOT!" |

This plane would have made for a slightly amusing 9/11. |
