It doesn't look awful in red, or gray for that matter.

#2, I thought it drove decently. I got to take it out briefly on a public road so I couldn't hoon it like the other cars they had. Very smooth and behaved like a real car. Slick powertrain infographic in the dash, and a silly green ball you try to keep in the middle of a chart by driving slowly. The red one had that goofy iPod-white center stack trim and some weird circuit-boardish-pattern door panel inserts, and the back seat didn't offer sufficient headroom for me (5'11"). And I sure as heck don't like the way it looks. The instructor said all the Volts' batteries were depleted so they had to run their engines. After driving a Chevy Cruze LTZ RS first (they made you drive a Cruze before the Volt) the Volt seemed kind of pointless. Aside from turbo lag, I really liked how the Cruze drove.

#3, I, personally, really like the way the Volt looks... it's all subjective.

But, yeah, given the choice, if I wanted a new fuel efficient car similar to the Volt, I'd get the Cruze Eco, and pocket the savings :)

I got to watch a few of these being driven in anger today. I looked over to see who was skidding loudly around the cone course and it was a Volt!
In an addendum to my previous experience, I drove another Volt and found it to be quite docile under normal driving conditions. The back seat has a little less headroom than I would like.
I also drove a Cruze Eco, which drove well but had atrocious seats with almost zero padding, and a Cruze LTZ RS which was very spunky, handled great on dry pavement and had acceptable leather-trimmed front seats. The back seats were still disappointingly hard.

#5, hard back-seats is apparently a GM hallmark. The Tahoe you and I rented, the Malibu I drove, the Malibu my dad was given by KU, the last two Sonics I rode in, the last LaCrosse I rode in, my friend's G6 coupe... I wonder if they do it on purpose?
