Description:
I was getting the distinct impression that the Sentra was headed down a one-way street to unreliability... just a gut feeling, and it still had a fair amount of instrinsic value, trade-in-wise.

New car. ...and I mean "New", as in, it had less than 50 miles on it when I bought it.

2011 Mazda2 Touring. 2300lbs, and it "feels" a lot like my old Mirage, but much more solid, and WAY better equipped.

Well, seeing as I never learned to drive a manual transmission car... yeah.

@500 miles:

-It's the lightness and nimbleness of the Mirage with that chassis tautness of the G20. Me likey.
-The cruise control isn't exactly as precise as the G20's or even the Sentra's, but it goes all the way down to 16mph, which is nice for my 15mph neighborhood.
-Stopping to get fuel when it's looking close to empty, and having the pump stop at 7 gallons... that's... odd.
-I absolutely adore the styling. Was never terribly fond of the Sentra's aesthetics, but every line and curve on this car... nothing wasted, and very sharp. ...and its' a modern hatchback WITHOUT stupid Gremlin windows! (a personal pet-peeve of mine... they worked on Gremlins, but nothing else) <3
-The ride is surprising for a car this tiny, but the wheels being pushed out to the corners is probably why. Is SOOOO stable on the freeway.
-The antenna on the roof is damn near *impossible* to remove. Ugh. I never listen to the radio anyway... but, when in the elevated position, it makes the car look like an overgrown R/C car... which I like :P
-Rear windshield wipers ROCK!
-The stereo is incredible for such a cheap car. Yes, the Sentra had a name-brand "Rockford Fosgate" stereo with a subwoofer in the trunk, but the sound wasn't that noticeably "better"...
-Speaking of trunks, even with the rear seats up, I can fit a whole grocery trip's worth of bags in there, even with my "road hazard" crate in there too (includes jumper cables, air compressor w/ car adapter, work gloves, paper towels, quart of oil, and funnel... I should probably include a jug of premixed antifreeze too, huh?)

#5, I carry Prestone 50/50 pretty much everywhere. I just lack all the rest of that stuff, along with little things like, oh, say a spare tire. :P

#6, Hmmmm... does my car even have a spare tire? I should probably read into that section of the Owners Manual...

...oh, and damndest thing... walking through the toy car aisle at Walmart a few hours ago (I can't help stopping by that aisle ever so often), couldn't believe my eyes... a Matchbox Mazda2! Had to pick it up... even though it was the pre-facelift (i.e. pre-happy-face), RHD version... close enough, dammit.

You use cruise control in a 15mph zone? Lazy ass. :P

4000 miles down... one pet peeve... the "Miles To Empty" calculator, that is ALWAYS on (right under the Odometer) is so goddamn inaccurate... it somehow believes that the car is, at all times, getting ~37-40mpg... when in reality, it gets ~29-30mpg... and the driving range is really only about ~230 miles, tops... not that great. But, like I said, only having to put in 7-8 gallons at fill-up doesn't hurt my wallet all in one go.

...and that 29-30mpg result is pretty damn consistent. Doesn't matter how I drive, where I drive, how fast, how slow, if the A/C is on, etc... it ALWAYS falls into that range at fill-up.

(edit) Also got some pliers and finally removed the antenna... it was causing me concern in the automated car wash... (yes, I'm washing this car... even got it professionally waxed and detailed two weeks ago.)

...and now that I think about it. I've wanted this car for a while. When I saw the new Demio/2 come out in Japan/Europe in 2007, I thought, "Wow, I really like the looks of that... wish I had a tiny, well-engineered and sporty Japanese hatch" ...and then heard the news the 2 would be coming to America, and I thought, in the back of my head mainly, "Wow I really would like to have that car." When the Sentra started acting up a bit, I *fantasized* about trading it in on a "new" car, and actually priced out things like a V6 Mustang, Forte Koup, Nissan Cube (yes, my "fantasy" search was kinda ecclectic)... and all that time I forgot about the Mazda2... then I remembered, priced it out, then looked at the inventory of my local dealership... and 24 hours later I owned this car :D

#10, Try running your mom's SX4 down to E if you want to see an inaccurate Miles to Empty calculator. :P

#11, I ran it down to 6 miles to empty once... filled up, no problem... is there something I should have noticed?

#12, the MPG range is hopeless.

#13, Well, I know that much... but at least the DTE calculator was accurate. I'd say the SX4's driving range is no worse than this car.

#14, the DTE calc on rental was all kinds of fubar. It went from reading 3 to 13 to 0 to 50. It was.. very strange.

#15, Given that it was a rental, it might have something to do with some guy reenacting the best scene from The Dukes of Hazzard EVER while snorting glass off the dashboard.

So... I splurged and got the windows tinted... as dark as the law allows... since this car has barely any chrome on it, the dark windows make it look rather... stealthy...

Because I love the way it looks with the tinted windows now, I'm thinking, hey, why not save up and get some black or dark gunmetal rims? No... no no no... it's got nice enough alloys as it is.

[edit] ...and, no, continuing the stealthy look with tinted front and rear light covers is NEVER going to happen :P I kinda like the styling of the front and rear lights... the front light bezels are actually rather dark as it is... and I rather like the deep red rear lights.
