Still common here, though curiously not as common as the pre-'86s with recessed headlights.

#2, Even rarer here. Was there a Mercury version of this bodystyle? I know of the Lynx, but was there one with the 1988 facelift?

#3, I don't think so....I think the Mercury Tracer filled that role.
EDIT: Wikipedia confirms this. Lynx lasted through '87, replaced in '88 by the Tracer.

#4, ahh.. seems kinda odd that there was a generation where the Tracer and Escort weren't twins.
