Y'know, I've been thinking... modern full-size pickups are too damned big, too damned ugly, and BY GOD are they priced TOO DAMNED HIGH... the cheapest you can get is a bone-stock, matte-bumpered, stripped F-150 for $28k... competitors all start at $30k or more... it's ridiculous.

The idea hit me, what if someone were to come out with a NEW fullsize pickup, but focused strictly on utility, durability, and low price/running-costs. I'd like to see someone like International Harvester jump back in the game. Conservative styling, limited "tech", but modern, efficient drivetrains and a high-strength platform. I'm sure a cost of ~$22-23k could be reached... or even cheaper. I applaud Nissan for offering the Frontier for under $20k, but it's small and is now old as shit.

I'm sure fleets would love a simple, full-size truck.

You can get halfway decent prices on new base F-150s if you look around. My local dealer has some new regular cab XLs for $24-25k on sale. I get your point though. My boss has been leasing work vans from out of state for better deals the past couple years. The cheapest stuff on the market is truly miserable to live with.

I recall that Mahindra was rumored trying to break into the US market some years ago with pickups but it seems that hasn't happened yet. If they could establish a US production facility to get around the chicken tax they *might* be able to pull it off.
