Description:
My BMW 320i during my first rally in that car.
Total RWD noob and first time with some proper suspension and performance brakes: that, plus it's a daily driver. Anyway, at this point this car is waaay faster than me.

#60, Damn. I didn't even realize you were in Germany now.

I suppose you'll be the market for something else, then?

#61, True. Just today my parents bought a blue 2002 Mitsubishi Carisma diesel. Once the paperwork is sorted I'm taking a day off and driving to Poland to switch cars. The beemer will be for sale for peanuts, just to get rid of it. Of course, I will be making the payments for the Mitsu.
When I think about it I get pains in my chest. The money, time, work and emotion invested into this car... what a horrible, horrible fucking waste. Not only I fixed the bodywork just before leveing for Germany but last weekend I went to watch a hillclimb and during my search for a good spectating spot I totally destroyed one of my rear tires on loose slate chippings: that will be 150 Euro for two new tires, thank you very much. Those old Dunlops? Yeah, I liked them too. I'm just sick in the head, that's it.

So the new car is on winter tires and the aircon cooler is busted... oh mam, please don't let this be a mine.

So I sold it for 1000USD. The new car is... boring. Seems to be larger but I'm back to this infuriating 'pedals too close, wheel too far' position which can only be fixed with telescoping column (which it does not have) or longitudinal engine placement. It has no tires and no brakes, I cooked the brake fluid while checking it out and now I have huuuge pedal travel and almost no room to spare before the floorboard. Also the shocks are either shot or I got spoiled by the Bilstein/Eibach combo. The undulations I could take flat out at 140kph in the Beemer with one finger up my ass now almost bounced me off the road at 90kph in this thing. WTF...

#64, Just remember, the secret is always try to appreciate what you have. It can be possible to have fun with your new car. Consider upgrading the brakes and suspension, using the excuse that they're worn and aftermarket pieces will be more dependable.

#65, I know, my philosophy was 'Doesn't matter what you drive, it's how you drive' but it is a bit of a shock. The plan is to definately upgrade the brakes (fluid, pads), get some middle brand touring tires and finally maybe change the shocks either to some good '+1' street shocks or look for some sports shocks... but I don't think anyone makes them for this car. There is a company called GTS that makes a sport shock based on KYBs... we'll see, firtst thing to do is to change the soda I have in the brake system now. Of course, all of this inevitably leads to hooning again... oh, did I mention I live 1 hour away from the Nordschelife...? >:)

Its the same as an S40 so you may be able to buy similar suspension upgrades+brakes.

#66, Lucky bastard. If I ever traveled to anywhere in Europe, one my first stops would be that big-ass crazy track.

If it's anything like my ride around the 'Ring in a Jetta GLI VR6 with four people in the car, you'll be fine.

I'm sorry to say this but so far the horror stories about German repair shops seem to be true. They are a bunch of retards who can only swap parts (I'm pretty sure you can train even a monkey to disassemble/assemble) and are imprevious to ideas like 'repair' and 'direct OEM replacement'. Seriously, when I told them they can put Bosch/ATE/TRW (all German brands!) brakes instead of Overnight From Japan OEM they first got confused and then flatly refused to even consider it and check the prices. Nein, it needs' yapan' teile, iz a Japanese car! Fuck you, no it is not! It's a rebadged Volvo with a Renault engine! It was made in the Netherlands! They also give you hilarious quotes for parts and labour (new disks and pads for the whole car: 600 Euro!!! Fuck me, maybe it is an Evo after all?). I have no choice but keep looking for a 'normal' shop: it's a mechanical problem after all: master cylinder? Booster? Who knows.

According to a report from my co-driver, the new owner stripped the interior but also fixed the cooling and ignition problems. Does it make me an asshole to be happy that in rallysprints he does only a little bit better than I did, even though he is running 225-section semi-slicks? >:)

#73, I was really questioning my driving ability after a string of results in the last quarter of the field despite this car being much faster than my previous cars. But when you try to race when you can barely afford a fill up (I couldn't - hence the autogas conversion) never mind properly fixing the car, or getting good tires I guess that's what you get.
It was an understated, 100% original ealry 90s car that only hinted at the fun you could have away from the crowds, rev that DOHC 24v inline-6 up to 6500rpm, blast through country roads and enjoy the suspension work, or just pull off little drifts like a dumbass... this car broke my heart.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, MOTHERFUCKER?! http://youtu.be/0mV5H8UAmng?t=1m43s
Buyer's girlfriend driving, most likely. Just before had to I sell it I put my whole paycheck to fix the bodywork, change the door and front panels and repaint large parts of the exterior...

That's always a risk in motorsports, though.

#78, Yeah, until I think I have searched for, prepped, got painted and installed that fender just before I sold it, hood was touched up by a paint shop, and I crawled on the ground to replace that exact foglight (had to, since the mounting was busted and I had to replace that too) once already.
I think I'm getting over this car but it shows why you should never get attached to anything... or anyone... OK, I'll just shut up now.
