Along with how FordAU and Holden use two letters for their models - I've never understood the nomenculture of Lada's cars.

Just what does 11993 mean anyway?

#2, No idea, it is very confusing. For example, the Fiat 124-derived Lada was VAZ 2103/2105/2107/ad infinitum... each number was given to a slightly different version. Remember that communism (and socialism, post communism, etc. etc.) was/is the dumbest system ever. If you assume that things should make sense... the joke is on you.

#4, I demand Lada's naming system to make sense!

Fuck it - I'll just make up something for 11993.

1 - 4 wheels
1 - 2 doors
9 - Cabrio
9 - White
3 - Jet powered

Sensekhmet - check this out

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automo...USSR_and_Russia

Somewhere under the "Modern numbering system" is where we'll find out what 11993 means.

VAZ - manufacturer
1 - less that 849cc
1 - passenger car
9 -
9 - 99th model (the two 9's make 99 - duh!)
3 - 3rd varriation

I'm probably wrong. I've been reading about the Soviet/Russian auto industy lately and I think the naming system is TOO organized to be useful.

I mean it helps a lot if to organize every car made in the Soviet union at the time - but calling a car a 11993 doesn't mean anything to anyone unless they know what the numbers mean. Check out the "old numbering system". A manufacuer is allocated just 99 names for all the cars they would ever produce.

So there you go. 11993 does mean something - and it wasn't wrong to assume that it would make sense even if the Soviets were crazy.

I still think my version of 11993 would be better.

#7, Interesting. But Niva was never sold with anything smaller than a 1.6 I think, so... *shrugs*
