What amuses me about it is the car is unapologetically, brutally, boxy and plain... but it has a frilly little script badge instead of block letters.

#4, Well, blocky letters didn't become the "modern" way to badge a car until the early 90's, compare this to the badges on a 1991 Taurus... but I definitely see what you're getting at. The LTDs at least dispensed with the flowery script.
