Description:
Varosha, Famagusta is an abandoned resort area of Cyprus which has been untouched since the Turks invaded in 1974. Today, the Turkish Army patrols the city and keeps everyone out. Only a handful of sneaky photographers have managed to get in and document the abandoned area. I'm focusing today on the cars of Varosha, starting with this Toyota dealership.

More "new" 1974 Toyotas. Note the window stickers: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zps66e3de4c.jpg

A decent-looking, untouched Corolla: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zpsb30eab61.jpg

Interior of the same. 37 actual miles: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zps26a8b41c.jpg

A Celica: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zpsc204b9df.jpg

Small picture of the interior. 30-something miles, as well. The photographer said the car still had plastic on the seats and still smelled new: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zpse38dabed.jpg

More Toyotas in the back, a bit worse for wear: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zps253fd91e.jpg

More: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zpsae615a91.jpg

Lest you think I only focus on Toyotas, here's a different garage with an old stripped Rover and an unidentified yellow car behind it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zps45e50ad4.jpg

Citroen GS and a Rover P6 in the street: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zps6817f3d5.jpg

Morris Minors in a field at the edge of town: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...zps242fc2eb.jpg

More info on Varosha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varosha,_Famagusta

The place is fascinating, and definitely worth looking up pictures of. There are lots of hotel rooms with clothes still strewn over the beds, electronics shops with TVs still set up on display, and beach chairs half-bured in sand.

Why did Famagusta get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks!

#5, Great post! From wiki:
"Since 1974, entry to the district is forbidden with the exception of the TSK personnel and the students of the girls' dormitory in there."

WTF??!?!
