Ah, had to do some research... based on a DAF... a PACCAR stablemate of Kenworth.

Can American commercial vehicle companies no longer design their own cabover trucks anymore? They always have to rebadge Japanese/European ones now?

I'll be scared for fall over once I start climbing in.

#1, Same as how they're now importing those goofy tall European vans.

#1, Technically, the American car company designed the Ford Transit. It was just designed by Europeans in Europe. That Dodge sprint was because of the Daimler Chrysler merger.

#3, While some people may question the aesthetics of those vans (I don't), it's hard to deny that they have the same amount of useable cargo space and hauling capabilities, if not more, and are far more efficient and easier to navigate in tight areas.

#5, Yep They're bigger inside too. Ever stood in a Nissan NV or Ford Transit cargo area?

#5, They also seem like they'd be frighteningly top-heavy. I suppose they'd be fine for urban environments, but I just get a mental image of one crossing the plains in Oklahoma and getting toppled by a crosswind.

#7, I've never seen a toppled Sprinter...

#7, Actually, with more modern and advanced chassis and suspension, I would think they stand a chance of being more stable than the American-style vans that still utilize half-century-old truck chassis technology.

#10, Wheels pushed further out to the corners? Chassis designed from the ground up to be used on a tall van, rather than a decades-old pickup chassis that is merely adapted after-the-fact to be used as a van? Computer-aided engineering for better dynamics?

Or perhaps I'm talking out of my ass.

Can't help it... when Dodge got rid of the Ram Van in 2003, so did any interest I had in new "American"-style vans... it's all personal bias.
