Rarity and quirkiness aside, one also has to love these because, dammit, Javelins/AMXs of this generation just look GOOD.

#3, Well, honestly, with Penske doing the prepwork and Donahue doing the wheelwork, they probably could have won races in 10-year-old Studebakers :P

But, that aside, yes, the Trans Am Javelins took the normal good looks of the car and only elevated it further.

#4, Well, it wasn't just Donahue/Penske. Follmer/Woods were top in 1972. Also, more recently, a Javelin placed 2nd overall in the 2012 Australian Touring Car Masters, against some not-too-lightweight competition.
