I still... I mean, 2005 doesn't seem THAT long ago (decade? Yikes)... but then, the notion of an "electric vehicle" still seemed so impractical and pointless... an entire realm of vaporware technology... but, today... almost every major manufacturer is selling some manner of pure electric vehicle, and there aren't any I can think of that I would consider as a "joke"...
I mean, the Coda EV, the Tesla Roadster, those innumerable electric "neighborhood vehicles"... all of them were horribly compromised in one way or another... those are examples of electric vehicles that I would consider "a joke"... but the current crop are actually damn near reasonable, practical alternatives to ICE vehicles... not perfect, but getting there.
I'll be honest, if I had a two car garage, right now I would totally own an off-lease 3-year-old 500e and an Abarth 124 Spider.
Off-lease 500e's have gotten so fucking cheap it's ridiculous. But it would not be able to be my "only" car... which is where the 124 Spider would come in :D (Besides, I have an infirmed parent with limited mobility, and if I had a low-slung sports car, that would be an impossibility for them... so the 500e would be perfect, as they don't have the 'strength' to endure any long journeys in a car)
#6, The "infirmed parent" is the reason why my dad hasn't traded in my 92 year-old grandmother's 2015 Prius for a Focus ST. He still takes her places in it regularly and she wouldn't be able to climb in and out of sport seats.
