Description:
Made a new acquisition...

2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT. 7k miles on the clock, and got it for a damn good price.

The shot I took of the front got washed out by a sun reflection... will have to try again.

12 years since sporting that little Rebel 250, I'm back in the saddle again.

My dad helped me get reacquainted with operating a motorcycle... after a shaky few minutes, it all came back to me... a bit different as this is more than twice the weight and three times the power. I've stalled the bike a couple times, but it'll only get easier with practice. I have this week off, so I'll probably be trying to get a LOT of practice in.

So, yeah, I've hit my midlife crisis at the age of 30 :P

#1, just don't install a stereo and ride around listening to country at 100 dB and you're good.

#2, So 100 dB polka on a bike is okay?

Nice bike...I especially like the black and blue color combo. The 903cc Kawasaki V-twins have a nice "cruiser purr" to them, too.

So, yeah, took it on a 30+ mile ride earlier today... pretty much up and down coastal highway A1A... pretty much until the sun started setting.

Tomorrow my plan is to head over the causeways to the mainland... will have some real high-speed (55+) practice there... if I'm feeling up for it, I might just try heading to I95...

#9, The triple-lights, the bike being dark blue/black, with the sadlebags, backrest, and windshield... and my light-colored helmet that flips up like that... I've had a few people slow down and get behind me when they see me...

#10, It's the mustache, gotta be. :P
That, and your clothing in the picture could pass for the Florida Highway Patrol uniform colors at a glance.

In case the jacket looks a bit odd, it's got kevlar body armor in it... so do the gloves... I'm considering getting some nice boots and kneepads as well... I may enjoy the freedom of riding carefully, but I also realize I'm in a state full of morons.

Wow, insurance on a motorcycle is cheap as hell. Just got liability coverage (with rather high limits) for $70... a year.

I think I've completely shaken off the rust. Now, hopping on the bike and heading somewhere feels normal... no more trepidation about the controls, making sharp turns, being in traffic, etc... if only US1 on the way to work weren't under construction, I'd probably ride into work more often... but, as it is, I'll probably only do it sporadically, taking I95 instead. (which is more miles, and, due to higher speeds, provides for less fuel efficiency)...

Once US1 is finished, and no longer a twisty roller coaster, that'll be great... of course, knowing how road projects in this county go, it'll probably be YEARS...

1500 miles later, still loving it... the more I run it on 93 octane, the happier it seems to be. Highway speeds seemed to be a little strenuous at first, but now it's loving it.

I hurt my back recently, so I haven't been able to hop on it for a couple of weeks... but I'm planning on taking it out to a motorcycle meet/greet/ride that my agency is organizing next week. Will be needing new tires soon... will definitely opt for whitewalls.

I've installed better grips and cruise control on it... definitely makes highway travel a breeze. I need to reinstall the highway pegs, though... (I took them off shortly after this pic was taken because I didn't think I'd need them... oh boy was I wrong.)

So, yeah... I had bought a custom gel seat for it... it definitely looked better than the stock unit, but I finally deduced that THAT is what was killing my back. Swapped back to the stock seat, and, on the advice of a friend, I got an air-cushion that straps to the stock seat, and BOY does it make a different. My back is perfectly fine for the first time in half a year.

The reason I heeded my friend's advice? He went through the same ordeal with his Triumph Bonneville... got a custom gel seat for it (though, his was made by Corbin, mine was made by Mustang), and it hurt his back... stock seat with the Airhawk (air cushion), and problem solved.

The bike's in the shop now. After putting 3000 miles on the bike, the front tire was pretty much done. Unfortunately, this was a bad time to have work done on it... shops are CRAMMED with post-Biketoberfest maintenance jobs and repair work.
