I love the first one. We owned one; it was great, but it developed hella electrical gremlins.. all the power shit quite working.. then the convertible roof went bust.. then for some dumbass reason the interior trim decided to come apart on its own.. so.. yeah.. We also had an E90 330xi whose interior suffered the same fate. Then we moved to Infiniti with nary an ergonomic issue. :) So.. I'll say this.
BMW makes pretty cars (the classics anyway), but I would never own one because they are pieces of shit.

#6, I think the "new" Jetta is the worst example of this. Quite sad, really, but also, I've seen enough Jetta 2.5s to not recommend one to ANYONE. EVER.

#8, pretty much. I would say the Civic is even a stretch. I would equate it to a second-gen Neon.. something of that Caliber. Not very Cavalier at all, really. Honestly needs to be thrown in a Sunfire.

#9, I'll be honest... and this is probably not a popular opinion, but I personally have a very negative impression of any midsize and smaller vehicle developed SPECIFICALLY for the American market... when developing something for the American market, price is priority. Corners are cut. Engineering isn't as intensive. The move is made to sacrifice quality for space. Then they dress it up in disproportionate styling to try to make it "look" more expensive, superficially.
...and I don't mean domestic automakers... look at the new Jetta, 2nd-gen xB, the NEW Toyota Camry (complete with its fake C-pillar windows and fake front grill)...
Sometimes sporty cars developed specifically for the American market fare better... the 1st/2nd gen Eclipses and the Scion tC, for example.
In trucks, SUVs, and large cars, this isn't a problem... the price Americans are willing to pay for those leaves room to design, engineer, and build the car properly. (ran out of room.. to be continued)

#10, When vehicles are designed for the Western European market and/or the Japanese market, then are brought to America later, with minimal alterations, they tend to be quite good.
Of course I'm biased, but I'm talking about cars like my 2, my sister's 1st-gen xB, my old G20, my dad's Cabrio (along with older VW Jettas and Passats, and all Golfs with the exception of the 1st-gen ones built in PA)...
Honestly, Ford and GM are doing it right... they've got the Fiestas, Focii (the "2nd-gen" one sold in America was a joke), Sonics, and Sparks... all designed for foreign markets then brought here, mostly intact.

#14, Yeah. The 2013+ is step down from the 2008-2012 cars. Driven both, I can say the four cylinder and V6 in the 09 LTZ and LS I drove felt nicer than the 2013 I drove a couple weeks ago. Quickly crossed it off my list. :( Just.. and the Eco is a joke. Oh, and the Australians get the Malibu as a Holden now.

Also, if I may, I'm in rant mode, and I'd just like to state how much I hate the Nissan Versa.
Yes, it has the room of a midsize vehicle, but the price of a compact... but good GOD is it a cheap piece of garbage. It's also quite ungainly in appearance... and they have now become the NUMBER ONE "avoid at all costs" vehicle on the roads for me.
People that don't give a shit about driving. They just want to sit down, meander down the road to their destination, with no critical thinking whatsoever... except for what their next text is going to be... they're not interested in the art of driving and commuting. They just want to sit in their roomy, spacious Versa, 5 miles under the limit, in the fast lane. At an intersection... light turns green? Oh, maybe I should let off the brake after 5 seconds... then maybe, maybe hit the accelerator, gently, after another 5 seconds... Gee, why is everyone flying by me?

When I was looking at cars.. I went to a Nissan dealer to look at a Juke. Not the Nismo, just a regular 6 spd (yes, they exist, but in small numbers), and the guy there was a complete asshole. He basically demanded that I test drive a bright red Versa (I forget the trim level), and I said I wasn't looking at them (and I didn't say because they're shit, I just said there were other cars on my list), but he had two cars on my list; a Cruze LTZ, which was quite nice, but the massive recall scared me, and a yellow (hush) Beetle Turbo. I didn't even get to drive the Beetle because the guy was a complete fuckhead.
Another vehicle on my "must avoid" list.. is.. the Spark.. mainly because the people who drive them here are dumbass teen girls.

I like the Sonic hatch. It's the sedan I can't deal with, and the same goes for the Fiesta.
