It does, really.

I almost bought a '97 Ram for $6,000. Bright red, super sharp short bed with V8 and auto. The only catch: it had nearly 300,000 miles on it. I could've always overhauled it, but I figured it would be better to buy an older vehicle in really good mechanical condition for 6 grand.

In the end, though, I just decided not to spend the money on anything. I should've, though, 'cause I really need a truck.

I bought this thing with 40k miles on it, and there's about 89k on it now, guess that's not bad for a 1995. DAAAAAAMN 300k on a 97' holy moley!

89,000 on a '95 is more than reasonable.

300,000 on a truck two years younger is INSANE.

I don't know how in the hell it got that mileage on it....it might have been a company vehicle of some sort.

For the record, it was actually like 270,000.

The question is, did it make it that far without a rebuild? If so, daaaang..

Thats what I was wondering... what all has been done in that 270k Trying to figure out what I am in for. (although that would be the mileage for me like in 12 years lol)

My mother has worked for Fuji for several years now....she drives vans all over MS and LA collecting undeveloped film from WalMarts. They used Ford vans (they just got a new fleet of Dodges, though) and would run them up anywhere from 300,000 to 400,000 on their original engines without overhauls. Highway mileage isn't hard on a vehicle.

#12: Very true. My first car had 156K on it, and it was mostly highway. Smooth as could be, especially considering it was a 3.8 V6 (known for rough idle).

The current record (from the Guiness Book) on original engine without overhaul is over 700,000, on a '79 Cadillac.

Dude. How'd he get the mileage? Put it in neutral and have it towed with the drive wheels on the ground?

BTW, the truck I was looking at may have been rebuilt for all I know, but I wasn't taking the chance.
