My new car: Mitsubishi Carisma 1.9 DI-D, a.k.a. The Mitsushiti. Possibly the first car I own that I have no feelings towards, at all.

Is there something equivalent to ASE in Germany?

https://www.ase.com/Home.aspx

Automotive Service Excellence. Its a certification for auto mechanics to ensure they have the proper training, especially on modern cars.

I appreciate ever since I tried to get my older car fixed at a "hey, its cheaper over here" gas station.

#23, The auto-tech program at my high school offered ASE certification for kids that completed all three years and could pass the ASE test... I only took two years of the program, as I'm totally not mechanically inclined, and barely passed the class due to the bookwork. The actual hands-on stuff, I was pathetic.

#23, I don't know if they have it, but it seems that fuck ups (and fucking me) happens regardless of whether I go to a 'Joe's Grease Pit' or Bosch Autoservice, Poland or Germany. The only thing I have not tried yet is the dealer: too scared of the bill.
The total lap tally of the Nords is now 19,5. Last weekend was the first time the track was open this year and I took it. I found that I developed a mental block of some sort... I am afraid of pushing this car... the redline is at 4500 and I caught myself shifting at 3000 a lot of times. I just don't trust it. Oh, did I mention that during my holiday in Poland a piece of trim from the A pillar just fell off on a smooth road at 70kph? Yeah. And there is water in the trunk again. Just... yeah.

I don't want to jinx it, but I might race at The Green Hell! OK, a regularity race, but still! Fuck me!
Whenever I get too stoked, I play this to remind myself what potentially awaits me: http://youtu.be/frdV-EAbHNY
Nice, huh?

#26, Wow, that looks like our weather today. Racing it that sort of rain look sorta scary, but fun.

I did it - last week I raced on the Nordschleife. It was a RCN GLP series regularity race and neither me nor my co-driver (whom I met for the first time when I picked up the car) had any idea what we were doing, but fuck me - if I didn't have any more targets in my 'driving career' I could just lay down and die with a smile on my face. My life would be complete. We ended up being not classified, since somehow we did one lap too many... Pay attention to the winner: he did 8 laps within HALF A SECOND from each other... o_O

The love-hate relationship continues... just when I feel at peace with this thing...
-the windshield cracks overnight! 650 Euro!
-turbo hose falls off again! 80 Euro! *
-brake inspection, to do list: shot discs, pads, calipers (temperature), brake hoses (age)! 900 Euro! **
* During my family's visit over here no less.. it's a bottom hose so no chance of reaching it without a lift. FUCK. YOU.
** They can fuck off with the overheated discs (no cracks, no vibration) and pads (no glazing). The calipers (I heard the piston seals can fail due to heat, plus mine are rusted to shit because the car sat god knows how long in a corner of the used car dealership lot) and brake hoses... that's more serious, especially since the hoses failed (well, I broke them...) on my father's car 2 years ago - both cars share exactly the same chassis.

#29, Sticking calipers...? Maybe... I've got some rather inconsistent mileage out of this car (it can go 850km on one tank on the autobahn and then not make 700km... I blamed it on high winds) but I noticed no signs of that - no brake pad smell, no melted hubcaps, no noise. I will keep an eye on it, for now I'll just get the brake hoses done and swap to a brake fluid with a higher boiling point. The latter is probably not necessary, since I should not track it anymore, but... key word here is 'should'.

#30, Don't get me started on high winds... I love the fact my car is so light an nimble... except for when I've got a massive headwind or crosswind, and it feels like there's something wrong, mechanically, with the car... but, no, just my dinky little hatch being pushed around like a dustbunny.

#31, Oddly enough my lowered 320i was a car that was most prone to drifting off the line in a sidewind from all the stuff I drove... I swear, not even my dad's minivan was that bad, or my sister's boxy Fiesta.
Speaking of the autobahn... imagine going 140kph for 1000km (well, the last 50km are not a highway)? yeah... I do this every holiday since I drive home to Poland XD I feel that this gets me the best balance between MPG and lenght of journey with this car, 140kph is 3000rpm-ish, and it is a diesel.

I am 1000km from home, I don't speak the language, I have no helmet and the right driveshaft/CV joint seems to be dying.
Hit it.

#34, Nah, and old coot, not sure if he fancied a Polish boy in the Fatherland at all... plus the battery tie-down was not completely OK, it seems it's too big for the battery and the thing can move side-to-side.

#36, This is 2002 vintage - what's a DFP? It does seem to have a catalyst, however. At least used to have one, the housing cracked and was welded back together, not sure if applying welder close to precious metal matrices is a good idea.
Oh, did I omit the cracked catalyst housing from the Mitsubishi Nedcar fine product features list?

#39, That spot in Poland is kinda picturesque. Dreary, but in a striking way.
