Description:
BMW 740li

Ran into the owner shortly after taking the pic, per him, its got over 300K on the clock and "just keeps going". His only regret is its a Eurospec car, so, no cup holders.

If he ever scraps it, he can get good money for those bumpers. Everyone wants to ditch the US spec "diving boards. "

Love these. Great find, and good thing the owner is cool, too. :) Surprised it hasn't been taken by US customs and crushed into a cube though.

#2, Well, it's past 25 years old now. Not to mention these were sold in this country, so even when it was new it was legal as long as it was federalized.

#3, True. But the Defenders were sold here and that didn't stop customs from going apeshit.

It's over 25 years old and was probably a grey-market import from new, so I'm guessing it never ran afoul of customs. Anything imported before 1988 was probably exempt from the Motor Vehicle Safety Compliance Act - you can blame Mercedes and their lobbyists for that one.

[edit] Skid beat me to it.
