Yeah it's a fucking 4-cylinder (depending on the year either a 1.9 or 2.0, always with 143hp) and most of FWD cars with 40hp less will blow the doors off it but the choice for things that can go sideways and have a trunk is pretty much limited to BMW or Mercedes. I have not heard about any sporting qualities or go better/faster parts for the C 200 Kompressor.
I will have a real headache to pick something: has to handle hooning well, cannot fall apart, should be up-to 2l, have a trunk to move my stuff, should handle well and it would be really nice it if was RWD. Things like 207 RC, Megane RS (falling apart) or Astra OPC (handling!) are tempting but I'm scared of potential expense: turbos can drink a lot and more stuff can go bad. Also, FWD.

#3, Oh shit, I just noticed something. If you select the price I'm thinking about (4000-6000 Euro) but leave the build year unchecked... Impreza GTs show up o_0

#6, GC, I think it was the same a WRX: 220-ish. I get a hard on but then I think about maintenance costs (fuel, parts... and diffs! driveshafts! CV joints! gaskets?) and I get tears in my eyes.

#12, If I was reasonable, I'd be looking at things like a 2.0 Mazda 3, a 2.0 Focus Mk2, things like that but... ohhhh, a rally car!

#15, I would say it depends on size of sedan versus its hatchback counterpart and whether or not the rear seats fold down.

#16, In a hatchback the access is usually much better and the seats fold down 99% of the time. From my experience (BMW 3 sedan and Carisma hatchback liftback) it is much easier to load up a corpse into a trunk that is usually theoretically smaller but has easier access. Ooops, did I say it out loud? Well, I did drive a Beemer...

#17, Plus the stench doesn't seep into the rest of the vehicle. :)
What you need is a W210 diesel with either a chip or a decent tune.

#18, The W210 is probably the worst car (quality wise) that Mercedes ever made.
What I need is a car that can perform the functions I mentioned in #1 (tall order...) and one which I will be able to afford: afford as in not just buy (hell, I can but a E38 740i, sure! hell, even two!) but being able to comfortably run it: fuel up, buy tires, get it serviced and have basic repairs done. It would also be nice if there was some go-fast aftermarket... don't worry, I won't rice it or ruin it with mismatched butcher mods.
