Drove by one a couple days back... I know it's cliché-d to say, but it's shocking how not-small these are now... and the taillights are stupidly over-sized, now... maybe they're trying to give it the proportions of a smaller vehicle? It just looks awful... and the front end waaaay too stretched out, now.

#1, Manufacturers can't help it, no matter where they start, they can't resist bloating small and practical cars with features and stretching the styling until they're overweight, overpriced, overdone, and then point to the low sales as proof that people don't want small practical cars.... oh the irony.

There's an MGB GT in my area that sometimes parallel parks in front of a recent Mini Cooper and even viewed from down the block, the Mini utterly dwarfs it.

#2, Then they have to introduce a smaller line of cars, like every other brand... it appeared that Mini had no interest in producing the diminutive Rocketman concept years ago... but now word is they're considering it again... due to progressive bloat of their current lineup.

#4, its still off the table because "no one is buying small compact cars; the market simply isn't there". Instead, they're introducing a Superleggera roadster, and a sedan. Blargh.
