#4, In Florida, most rental agencies avoid visible barcodes on the windows, and uniquely formatted plates... about a decade ago, there was a violent gang in the Orlando area specifically targeting rental cars... then changes came about to remove anything that visually distinguishes a rental car from any other normal car.
The Versa Note seems to actually be a decent vehicle, as is the Chevy Spark... I related a rant a while back about vehicles developed for Japan, South Korea, or Western Europe, then brought to America slightly-modified, being far better than economy vehicles developed specifically for America, Eastern Europe, India, or less economically-advantaged areas of Asia...

I would say neither of the ones you mentioned; while all three are terrible they don't try to be bigger, better or more sophisticated than their predecessors. I would venture to say that the new Malibu is the worst new car you can buy today. Here me out.
In early 2007, when the 2008 car came out, the design language was new for Chevrolet; the car had class, and looked good from nearly every angle. Paint finishes were good, and color choice was decidedly upscale (pearl white, deep red, actual metallic mineral gray, I mean damn). Wheel choices were good too. Yes the base hubcaps sucked, but the wheels on that LTZ were pretty nice. Inside, the materials where genuinely nice on the top-tier models (LTZ), but lesser models had iffy interiors and mediocre material choices... (continued)

Engine choices were good, too. The base 2.4 didn't sound like a raspy piece of shit, and the 3.6 paired with the 6 spd auto made a great combination. Best part was, you didn't need the bottom-feeder four to achieve good highway mileage.
Now, when the car got redesigned for 2013, GM took a giant step backward--and I mean giant.
Gone was the V6, and in its place were two four-cylinder engines. Body got bigger, but interior got smaller. Seats got worse, too. Hard front seats with no lumbar support, and the back seat is the worst thing I've sat in since a friends' early 2000s Eclipse. It's a four-door sedan and it straddles the line between mid and full-size. a 5'1" person shouldn't feel fucking cramped in the back.

I will add driving dynamics to this, too. I've drive a base 2009 four-cylinder LT. Nothing special, but it didn't piss me off. I've driven a loaded 2008 LTZ 3.6 with 130k miles, and it felt solid. I also drove a 2012 Malibu eco (i think) and it felt unfinished. The start-stop was very evident; grabby-as-fuck brakes, and it felt like accelerating generation a bunch of unwanted noise but not much forward thrust. Granted, I know its not a race car, but coming from a C-Max owner (again, a C-Max isn't exactly a powerhouse), I expected a bit more. Needless to say, I feel underwhelmed by the damn thing. I'd rather spend $30,000 elsewhere.

#7, Agreed. I rented a Malibu and the center console makes the front seat very crammed. Power was ok for point a to b. But the brakes were dangerously grabby.
