So do you like it better than the Kawasaki, overall?

#1, Only ridden it about 25 miles so far :P

It's a bit rough around the edges, aesthetically, but extremely solid mechanically.

I was burbling along at 50mph, and wasn't even in the highest gear... that was a nice experience.

To be honest, I always thought the 900's exhaust note was reminiscent of a lawnmower... not this bike. Stock pipes, and it still sounds epic (yet, surprisingly, it's much quieter at idle, and when putting around at 15mph... which helps in the don't-piss-off-the-old-curmudgeony-neighbors...)

Same size gas tank, and it gets, maybe 1-2mpg worse... so that won't be a big change, thankfully.

Took it on the interstate... it is sooo relaxed at freeway speeds... it feels about as relaxed and stable as the Vulcan did on US-1... and opening it up on the on-ramp to accelerate up to traffic speed on the interstate is a lot of fun :D

Well, shit... dropped off my bike at the mechanic's to get some accessories... but, while he was focusing on removing the bolts on the inside of the fender, the backrest fell off and some exposed bolts on the bracketing slammed into both sides of the rear fender... my mechanic will cover the costs of repairing and/or replacing the fender, so, thankfully, I'm not out any money, just extra time without the bike :(

#4, One of the accessories that was being installed (the rear luggage rack): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...er/P5290247.jpg ... which is why the rear passenger seat/backrest and bracketing were being removed... I trust myself on a bike, but not enough to take on the responsibility of a passenger's well-being.

Sorry for the potato cell-phone quality... http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/vtxwork.jpg

It's interesting seeing the parts that are normally obscured by bodywork...

#7, To be honest, it looks very much in the style of the latest trend my mechanic has been helping people with... cheap conversions of "standard" motorcycles to cafe racer style... which basically means shorter rear shock travel, cut-down, straight seat, and minimal rear fender. Every time I visit his shop, he's doing yet another cafe racer conversion.

Got the bike back today... it was pretty lousy weather until the sun set, so I wasn't able to take a good photo... but then I see my mechanic posted a picture he took on his business FB account (he does so with many of the bikes he works on) http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/vtxmech.jpg

#9, That oughtta look nice once the saddle bags are refitted. Ditching the passenger's seat for a luggage rack was a good move.

#10, Oh, it does look nice. The saddlebags *are* on, and I took it for a ride after the weather cleared up (but the sun had set)... so, like I said, not really good conditions for a picture...

I have a new, higher-quality windshield on order (the stock, OEM one was ruined by the previous owner, scratched all to hell, and those [rather flimsy] gloveboxes are GLUED to the windshield... badly...

I think I'll just post this here for my own way of keeping track... mods I want to do in the future:

- auxiliary lightbar (haven't figured out which would look good on my bike yet)
- Avon MT Air Cushion anodized grips with throttle assist
- handlebar-mounted glovebox (no real specific one in mind)
- Viking Lamellar extra large shock cutout leather saddlebags (the stock bags, much like the stock windshield, were ruined by the previous owner [he obviously never buttoned them up, so now the flaps are rather bent out of shape], plus, these would be lockable)
- Ultimate Big Boy solo seat with backrest

I am rather annoyed that Honda put such cutrate, low-quality "touring" pieces on the bike... the OEM windshield is ridiculously small, proportionately, and super thin... the saddlebags are similarly cheap construction. I get the feeling this "Touring" model was simply a bodged-together quickie to extract some extra profit from the 1800 before Honda ended production. (the "T" was only offered from 2007-2008, the final years of the bike)

Hrrmmm... after seeing some videos and getting word from my mechanic, perhaps Viking bags wouldn't be the best choice...

I could wait a few months to save up enough to get a pair of these in matching blue... http://www.tsukayu.com/HardbagsforVTXrstn.html

#13, I think I've decided that when I've saved up enough money, I'm gonna go ahead and order those...

Me, desperate for cash for such an investment? http://www.ebay.com/sch/dirf/m.html...om=&_ipg=25 Surely you jest :P

#17, Why do you think I'm getting rid of 'em? http://i.imgur.com/0sWkJqn.png :P

...and that's not including the movies I own through Disney Movies Anywhere... (Literally "Anywhere"... any movies one owns on DMA can be watched through DMA itself, Vudu, Google Play, YouTube, iTunes, Amazon Video, and Microsoft's video service)

So, this bike has become the bane of my mechanic's existence... Honda did NOT make this easy to work on... apparently, it's impossible to remove the rear wheel without removing the exhaust... and it's impossible to move the throttle cable without removing the gas tank and air intake...

#19, Sounds like the designers moonlighted at Jaguar..... have to take the rear bumper off to do the front shocks.... that kind of stuff.
