Description:
On the left, Bellefonte Central #21 shuffles cars around the yard at State College in 1947. The bell tower to the Old Main building on campus is just visible in the distance. This was the western terminus of the BFC, having come 18 miles upgrade from Bellefonte to get here.

The bell tower is hidden by that small clump of trees behind the squat yellow building ( a laundromat) and the white office-tower like structure is the Walker Building, housing the PSU Meteorology Department.
This part of the BFC was abandoned in 1974 as the industry on this end of town switched to truck service for their freight, and the auto boom had killed off passenger service even sooner than that.

I'm assuming the present picture is your own photo? Its really cool that you're able to document history like this. I know nothing about trains/rail services but your train posts are always interesting to read. :)

#2, Yep, taken this Tuesday.
The 47' image is courtesy of one Woodward Bierly, who took several photos of the area around that time, including the railroad, and are now in a collection owned by the University.
