I appreciate the engineering that went into the space/packaging efficiency layout in these things... and I don't even think it's all that bad looking... but it suffered from the same Achilles heel as the smart fortwo: price.

Modern "retro" cars like the Mini and VW Beetle justify their price by being more stylish and equipped with higher-quality materials and gadgets than their cheaper compact competitors... but the iQ had pretty much similar "acceptable" styling details and equipment as the larger Yaris, but was (in some cases) more expensive, and didn't exactly offer all that much better mileage...

I only ever saw one in person, which tells me they didn't sell that well, this is a college town where Priuses and Fortwos dominate as much as anywhere.

That's a common complaint about the Smart from what I've heard, it costs a lot for what you get, and isn't all that much more fuel efficient than a slightly larger "conventional" compact.

Only ever seen 2. 1 of which was on a showroom floor.

I'm still kinda glad the iM will live on - even if it is under the dreaded Corolla badge.

I'm ashamed to admit that I was "that guy" who couldn't parallel park one of these inside the cone box at the auto show Ride & Drive.
